PROBATE SEARCHES: $4.00 per search + 35¢ per page for copies. If you know, or just hope, your ancestor had a will probated in Brown county, ask one of the volunteers below to check. If the person is found, you will only need to pay for the pages copied. Call the clerk's office with the name and box # to get the total cost. The Circuit Court clerk also holds divorce records.

The Brown County Clerk's office can supply you with copies of birth records (from about 1860), marriage records(from 1841), and death records (from 1878). They also maintain land records. Call the office for current fees and to ask specific questions.

VAGHS is a non-profit membership organization staffed by dedicated volunteers. They maintain a steadily expanding collection of Brown County records such as marriages, death notices and family histories and have an excellent list of publications for sale.
